TRIAL DESCRIPTION
Public title An RCT of early discharge with a catheter Vs late discharge after catheter removal following urogenital fistula repair among women in Mulago Hospital,
Official scientific title An RCT of early discharge with a catheter Vs late discharge after catheter removal following urogenital fistula repair among women in Mulago Hospital
Brief summary describing the background
and objectives of the trial
Uganda has a fistula prevalence of 2% (UDHS 2011).There is a small number of surgeons and few beds dedicated to fistula care, a condition resulting from neglected obstructed labor in more than 90 percent. With the existing backlog, the standard 14 days of stay on hospital beds following repair is a hindrance to accessing surgery by most of these women with fistula.his study aims at shortening the hospital based care by discharging fistula patients early (3-5 days)following surgery.
